Think Kenya safari and your mind probably jumps straight to the Maasai Mara. But what if we told you there’s another wild corner of Kenya where red elephants roam, ancient baobab trees dot the landscape and adventure is around every corner?
Welcome to Tsavo National Park.
One of Kenya’s largest protected areas, Tsavo is a vast wilderness filled with incredible wildlife, dramatic landscapes and unforgettable experiences. But there’s more to Tsavo than a traditional safari.
From wildlife and adventure to local experiences and unique places to stay, here’s why Tsavo National Park should be on your Kenya travel list. In fact it’s Sham (T4P founders’) favourite national park in Kenya!
Discover Tsavo on Safari
Tsavo National Park is big. Really big! Tsavo East and Tsavo West together form the core of the Tsavo Conservation Area, which spans around 22000 km², making it one of Kenya’s great wildlife landscapes. To put that into perspective, you could spend days exploring and still feel like you’ve only scratched the surface.
One of the best ways to explore it? Hop into a 4×4 and go on safari. Our Tsavo National Park Day Trip Safari gives you the classic game drive experience while making your trip a little more meaningful. Alongside wildlife spotting and exploring the park, your safari contributes to initiatives that support local communities and conservation.
Want to take it a step further? Our Conservation Safari takes you into a private conservancy near Voi, where you can go beyond the game drive with hands-on conservation activities, ranger experiences and cultural interactions. You’ll get a closer look at the work happening behind the scenes to protect wildlife and support the communities living alongside it.

Explore the Wundanyi Hills on Foot
Ready to swap the safari vehicle for your walking shoes? Head to the Wundanyi Hills for a day hike.
Set in the Taita region, Wundanyi offers a cooler change of scenery, with rolling green hills, farmland and panoramic views stretching across the landscape – it literally feels like you’re in Switzerland in the summer.
Hike alongside our local guide who knows the area like home, discovering the area at your own pace while hearing stories and insights about the region along the way.
It’s a chance to step away from the usual tourist trail, slow down and experience a different side of Kenya.
Whether you fancy a gentle wander or a longer adventure, the hike can be adapted to suit your pace and interests. Your step count will thank you later!

Connect with Tsavo’s Community
Beyond the wildlife, Tsavo is rich in culture, creativity and community.
Join a local women’s group for our hands-on Basket Weaving and Elephant Dung Paper Workshop, where you’ll learn how traditional crafts are made, including the surprisingly fascinating journey from elephant dung to paper!
More than just a fun activity, the workshop gives you the opportunity to spend time with the women, hear their stories and support a community-led initiative that creates income and opportunities.
You can also visit a Masai village near Tsavo and spend time with the community learning about their way of life. Join in on the activities, meet local people and gain a glimpse into traditions deeply connected to community and the land.
And if you’re up for the challenge, try to out jump a masai!
