Wundanyi offers a quieter, lesser-known experience with cooler temperatures, rolling green hills and local farming landscapes. It’s ideal for travellers looking for a more peaceful and off-the-beaten-path adventure.
I didn’t know what to expect from a hike in the Taita Hills but honestly, this was one of the best decisions I made on my trip. The guide knew every corner of those hills like it was his backyard — because it is. We talked the whole way up, about farming, about the community, about life. I came for the views (which were insane, by the way) and left with a completely different understanding of the region. Proper off-the-beaten-path stuff.
A genuinely lovely morning. The hills are beautiful, the air is cool and the pace felt just right. Our guide made it feel personal rather than like a tour, which we appreciated.
We did this hike with our two teenagers and were pleasantly surprised — they actually loved it. The trail winds through real farmland and open hillside, and our guide was brilliant at keeping everyone engaged with stories about the area. Knowing that our booking directly supported someone from the local community made it feel worthwhile beyond just the exercise. The views at the top were the cherry on top. We’d genuinely recommend this to any family looking for something a little different.
Wundanyi snuck up on me. I wasn’t expecting to feel that moved by a hike but there’s something about being in a place that tourism hasn’t quite reached yet — it feels honest. The guide was knowledgeable and warm, and I walked away having learned more about the Taita region than I would have from any guidebook. My legs were tired. My heart was full. Worth every step.
