Why?
The baobab tree holds deep meaning across Africa, often known as the “Tree of Life”. This experience lets you connect with that in a very hands-on way. You’ll learn how every part of the pod can be used, gain a deeper appreciation for conscious craftsmanship and leave with something you made yourself. Simple, beautiful and special.
How?
Guided step by step by skilled artisans, you will transform a baobab pod into your own bowl. Along the way, enjoy light bites, taste baobab and hear the stories behind the craft.

Arrive at the studio and receive a warm welcome from your host. Take a moment to settle in, get comfortable and be introduced to the space, the artisans and the story behind the experience.

I didn’t really know what to expect from a baobab bowl workshop, but it turned out to be one of the most grounding things I did on my trip. You’re sat with local artisans at this beautiful studio in Kilifi, learning how to shape a baobab pod into an actual bowl — and they walk you through every step with so much patience and warmth. What struck me most was hearing how nothing goes to waste — every single part of the pod gets used in some way. You also get to taste baobab, which I’d never tried before, and take a walk to the tree itself. I came home with a bowl I made with my own hands and a completely different appreciation for what conscious craft actually means. This one stayed with me.
Went in thinking it was a cute little craft activity. Left having made something beautiful from scratch, learned about the baobab tree’s cultural significance, and somehow also tasted the fruit, heard the artisans’ stories, and walked away feeling genuinely connected to the place. If you are in Kilifi, you need to visit this studio, these people, just go!
