Didn’t expect a meal to make me emotional, but here we are. Seven courses of the most thoughtful, soulful food I’ve ever had — each one telling you something real about this country. Karen is lucky to have this little gem.
I’ve eaten at a lot of ‘local experience’ restaurants while travelling and most of them feel curated for tourists. This was the complete opposite. Twelve seats, a family running the show, and food that genuinely made me want to understand Kenya better. Every course came with a story — where the ingredient was grown, who farmed it, what region inspired the dish. By the time dessert arrived I felt like I’d been given a quiet education I didn’t know I needed. The fact that it’s all locally sourced isn’t just a nice tagline here, you can actually taste the intention behind it.
Seven courses. Each one a different corner of Kenya on a plate. From coastal Swahili flavours to something that tasted like it came straight out of the highlands — this is genuinely the best way to start any Kenya trip before you’ve even left Nairobi.
Honestly, book this before anything else on your Kenya itinerary. It’s a 12-seater restaurant in Karen — tiny, family-owned, zero pretension — and they walk you through seven courses that cover the whole country’s culinary map. I went in hungry and came out completely converted. The chefs aren’t just cooking, they’re championing something. You feel it in how the food is put together and in how warmly the team talks about every dish. One of those experiences where you leave thinking the world needs more places like this.
