I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect walking into Mathare, but this experience completely shifted something in me. The kids are extraordinary — watching them move, teach, and just exist with so much joy and purpose in a space they’ve built for themselves was one of the most humbling things I’ve witnessed. We learned a short afro routine and I absolutely butchered it, but nobody cared — there was just laughter and music and this shared energy that I’m still thinking about weeks later. Book it. Just book it.

This was our favourite afternoon in Nairobi, full stop. We were taken through the slum, into the studio, and straight onto the dancefloor — and somehow it all felt completely natural. The guide was warm and thoughtful, and the stories shared during the walk gave real context to what these young people are building. You leave knowing your money went somewhere that genuinely matters.

Came with a group of 8 and every single one of us walked away changed. The dance session is fun and high energy, but what hit harder was the slum walk — seeing where these kids actually live and then understanding what the studio means to them. It’s a safe space, a dream, and a community all in one. We contributed to their programs and it felt like the most purposeful thing we did on the whole trip.

Genuinely one of the best decisions I made in Kenya. The whole thing — the tour, the dance, the storytelling — it’s not performative at all. It feels like being welcomed into something real.
